Beauty with a purpose

Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2018

v Care

Sri Lanka was once a war torn nation. The island was embattled in a 30 year long Civil War, in which the lives of countless thousands were brutally lost and families were torn apart, due to the horrors and wages of war. To some the horrendous physical and emotional vestiges of a battle long fought, are yet visible and experienced to this day. We are ever grateful for the priceless sacrifice the armed forces, the Army, Navy and Airforce made, in order that we and our children, can walk the pathways of this land safe and sound.

The armed forces are War Heroes who paid and were willing to lay down their lives for the sake of country. Now the battles have fallen silent and these War Veterans live their lives away from the spotlight, at times undergoing a different kind of struggle; an economic one. Its time now to bring them once again into focus and give them the recognition they deserve, as well as pay an ongoing tribute to them, by way of uplifting their daily lives.

vCare is such a project. A community service initiative designed with the sole objective of elevating and easing the lives of War Veterans, via a network that ensures and supports the economic well-being of War Veterans. This is my conscientious effort to give back to a segment of our community, that has sacrificed so much. It is my way of saying, ‘Thank You’ and appreciating their immeasurable service, as well as, providing a much needed solution to a prevailing, gaping need in our society. Here in Sri Lanka programs for War Veterans, that identify and cater to the physical, emotional and economic needs post-war or service are sadly scarce. VCare is designed to offer discounts at stores island-wide for all veteran personnel of the nation’s forces. The vCare project partners with local and multi-national corporations creating a strong network that ensures that the daily lives of veterans are made a little easier and a little more comfortable, while assuaging the daily struggles and battles encountered in civilian life.
